Carla C. Thomas-Johnson, is a native of Tampa, Florida, and a graduate of the University of South Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration / Marketing, as well as a Master’s degree in Education.She has over 25 years of dance and cheerleading experience at both the local and national levels. She is the Director and Founder of Cheer Girl Entertainment, an entertainment company providing a variety of services including freelance choreography, cheerleading / dance team camps, competition choreography,professional cheer and dance audition prep classes. Carla, a former cheerleader with the NFL’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers for five years, served as Team Captain in seasons 1998 through 2002, served as a Head Instructor for the Junior Tampa Bay Buccaneers Cheerleaders Program during her tenure and a Team Leader and guest choreographer during the squad’s appearance at Super Bowl XXXVII. In addition, Carla worked as Cheerleader Captain (for two seasons) with the AFL’s Tampa Bay Storm Cheerleaders and as their Director, Choreographer, and Artistic Director (seasons 1998 through 2002) Carla was also the Artistic Director for the squad’s appearance in Arena Bowl XI.
Carla began with the Tampa Bay Storm in 1996, and choreographed the team’s Game-Day and sideline performances through the 2002 season. Carla then served as Director and Choreographer for the Junior Tampa Bay Storm Cheerleaders, while acting as the Artistic Director for the Tampa Bay Storm Cheerleading Clinic, which hosts 200+ junior cheerleaders annually. Carla’s other professional dance team Director positions include two seasons with the AIFA’s Lakeland Thunderbolts as the Director and Choreographer of the dancers, juniors dance team, as well as the Choreographer and Artistic Director at their appearance in the 2007 Championship Bowl. She was also the Director and Choreographer for one season with the ABA Tampa Bay Strong Dogs Dance Team.
She served as Program Coordinator and Competition Routine Choreographer for the Tampa Bay Youth Football League’s Junior Buccaneers, as Director and Coordinator of its cheerleading and dance programs, and performed the same duties for the Jr. NBA Cheerleading and Dance Team, the YMCA, and local chapters of the Boy’s and Girl’s Clubs. Carla was voted NCA All-Star Cheerleader by the nationally recognized NCA Cheerleading Camps and additionally has acted as Head Cheerleading Coach for both the JV and Varsity cheerleading squads at Chamberlain High School, Tampa, FL. She also currently serves as Camp Director at Dance Hawaii USA, a collegiate preparatory dance camp, in Honolulu, Hawaii annually.
Carla has trained with dance industry giants such as Laurie Ann Gibson,Brian Friedman, Fatima, Chris Judd, Darrin Henson, Tina Landon, John Peters, Joe Tremaine, and also with Pam Chancey,Frank Hatchett and Ephrat Asherie at the Broadway Dance Center in New York City. She has had various freelance choreography works appear on ESPN, ESPN2 and Sunshine Network programming.
